TV & Radio Interviews

  • After received an invitation from SBS Radio (Melbourne) station, the President of the Association, Mr. James Yu attended the radio interview via telephone. Mr. Yu briefly introduced the crisis of Sydney drinking water happened last year and The Final Sydney Water Report, as well as ACEA's improvemnet of the Sydney water quality solutions.

    The interview was on air on Sunday, 11 July, 1999.

  • Monica from Channel 7 TV came to Clunies Ross Lecture Theatre, J. D. Stewart Building, Sydney University where the ACEA's seminar: "Solutions to the Sydney Water Crisis" was held on 7 July 1999.

    Mr. Yu, the President of the ACEA attended the Channel 7 interview. The interview was continued for more than half an hour concerning ACEA's proposal -- The Crisis of Sydney Drinking Water and One of Our Solutions.

    The journalists from 2CR radio and The Independent Daily news paper also attended the seminar and interviewed Mr. Yu and the Executive Secretary Mr. Fang.

  • After received the invitations from SBS Radio (Sydney) stations, the President of the Association Mr. James Yu and Vice-President, Mr. Chi-Nam Si attended the radio interviews in 2ac and SBS for "The Crisis of Sydney Drinking Water and One of Our Solutions".

    "The Crisis of Sydney Drinking Water and One of Our Solutions" was proposed by the Association Committee in response to Sydney drinking water crisis last year and in coordination with the recommendations of Sydney Water Inquiry.

    A. C. E. A. Australian Chinese Engineers Association proposal is as the following improvements for water treatment technology:

  • (1) Technical improvements --

    (a) Installation of activated carbon filtration system into the existing Sydney water treatment plants at a cost of A$35 millions.

    (b) Use of a combination of chlorine dioxide and ozone for water disinfection, at a cost of A$22.23 millions, to replace chlorine - the current disinfection agent in use.

    Total cost of the above technical improvements is about A$57.23 millions in comparison with the estimated cost of A$300 millions as was reported in the Final Report of Sydney Water Inquiry.

  • (2) Management improvements --

    (a) Sharing the points of view with Sydney Water Inquiry that a strict control of catchment is the key factor to the quality of Sydney drinking water.

    (b) Establishing legislation for drinking water quality to make it in line with world trend of controlling the microbiological contamination of drinking water.

  • The interview were conducted by the Head of Gantonnese, SBS, Mr. Francis Lee on 1 July 1999 and by 2ac Radio, producer and presenter Xiao Mei on 2 July 1999.
  • As the executive secretary of the ACEA, Australian Chinese Engineers Association, James Yu (Siang-Chung) was invited by 2ac Radio and interviewed by the program "Variety" producer and presenter Xiao Mei in November1996.

    James Yu introduced the association's organization, manifesto and its activities etc.
