Gosford Racecourse Branch

The branch is situated on the down side, is 1 mile 4 chains in length to the terminal dead end, and is worked as a siding (on days other than Race Days) under the supervision of the Station master Gosford.

A platform for passenger traffic is provided and there are three loop sidings, one being opposite the platform and one on either side of the line near the terminal dead end.

Passenger Trains on Race Days and Other Special Occasions

On Race Days and otehr special occassions, ordinary train staff working will operate and the following special instructions will apply:

Particulars of the staff are as follows: Shape round, colour red, inscription `Gosford - Gosford racecourse'.

Custody of Ordinary Train Staff

When not in use the Orinary Train Staff for the section Gosford - Gosford Racecourse must be kept under lock and key in the Station Masters office, Gosford.

When Gosford Racecourse is opened as an Ordinary Train Staff Station for race days and other special occassions no train, other than specially tabled passenger trains are to be allowed on the Gosford Racecourse Branch line, nor is any shunting movement (other than with the specialy tabled trains) to be made thereon during that time.

When open for Passenger trains the Metropolitan Passenger Superintendent will depute a Traffic Officer to see that safe and proper arrangements are made.

The supervising Traffic Officer must satisfy himself that all points are made safe and secured for the passage of passenger trains, also see that the Branch line is clear of any obstruction from the private sidings and loading platform situated on the branch line.

The speed of trains between Gosford and Gosford Racecourse must not exceed 10 miles per hour.

Provision of Flagmen

The Station Master, Gosford must arrange for a flagman, equipped with the neccessary hand signals to be provided at the gates where the branch line crosses the Pacific Highway.

Securing of Vehicles

Vehicles left standing on the Branch line must be properly secured with handbrakes and sprags against the possibility of moving and obstructing the Main line. The Station Master, Gosford must see that a supply of sprags is available for the purpose.

Propelling

Vehicles may be propelled as required from Gosford to the Racecourse Branch during daylight only. The provisions of rule 202(j) must be strictly observed. When propelling, the speed must not exceed 5 miles per hour.

Gates

A single gate is provided in Departmental boundary fence, which normally closes across the Gosford Racecourse Branch line. Double Gates which normally close across the line are also provided on each side of crossing where Pacific Highway crosses the line.

When it is neccessary for a train to proceed on to the Racecourse bRanch line for the purposes of shunting or to place or lift traffic, the Station Master, Gosford, must arrange for two Traffic Branch employees qualified to act as Guard and Shunter, respectively to accompany the train.

Prior to the train passing the Pacific Highway in either direction, it must be brought to a stand before reaching the gates.

The Traffic employee in charge of the shunt must exhibit a Red flag against approaching road traffic and bring that traffic to a stand before closing the gates.

After the train has passed clear of the level crossing, it must be brought to a stand and the Traffic employee in charge of the shunt must open and secure the gates in a safe position for the passage of road traffic.

Gosford Racecourse Branch must be sunted during daylight only
