Based on a design used on the Isle of Wight railway these
18 locomotives were purchased for suburban passenger service
but a serious accident saw them banned from this work. Withdrawals
commenced in 1905. 10 members of the class survived to the 1924
renumbering.

1039's frame was sold to Bulli Colliary on 16/10/29 to assist in
rebuilding of 1040
