Imported for construction work on the Melbourne Docks by J Robb in 1889 the locomotive saw service on the construction of the Happy Valley Reservoir in South Australia around 1892, and possibly at the Tarrawingee Limestone quarries North of Broken Hill. It then passed through the owner ship of Norton Griffiths and the public works department (1910) before comming into railway ownership in 1918. This locomotive does not seem to have been used during its period of railway ownership. It was sold in June 1936 to W.West and then later to Newbold Mill. It saw service at this company's Bannister Point to Pattimore line then in 1938 was transferred to the company's Thiroul plant.

It was at some stage stripped to the frame and converted to a petrol driven locomotive, and saw service in this this state at Thiroul and Home Rule near Gulgong. It was eventualy acquired by the Illawarra Light Railway Musuem on 18th June 1975.

Restored to working order in 1976, it was given the name Newbold by the ILRMS.
