1011 was one of a batch of 10 very American looking 2-6-0s. They suffered from poor braking performance and so were confined to west and north west, but later saw service in the Newcastle area, and one was used for a time as a bank engine at Penrith. No 295 was sold to the Commonwealth Railways for use on construction work while the remainder were transfered to the Public Works Dept, returning to railway ownership in 1917. Four (numbers 294,297,298, 299) were rebuilt with 55'' driving wheels and three of them sent to work the isolated Menindee to Broken Hill line in 1922. The three at Broken Hill were scrapped in 1928 and the remaining engines soon after. Their tenders were used in the 30 to 30T class conversion project.
Grunbach page 78 shows 1011 with its large driving wheels alongside K295 with original wheels.
