Originaly purchased by Public Works Department for work on Glenbrook deviation at a cost of 2720pounds. After the completion of this project 1047 was transfered to join her sister engine 1046 on the Lithgow Zig Zag deviation. 1047 became NSWGR property in 1924. Transfered to Civic Workshops in 1922 and then to Chullora in February 1944. During its time at Civic an extension was fitted to the jib, which it seems was later removed. It also at some stage of its career gained extended side tanks.

Photos

Eardley2 has a photo of 1047 at work on the Glenbrook deviation in 1909.

Grunbach has three photos of 1047. One taken in October 1933 at Honeysuckle shows the extended jib in use, another photo on the same page (147) shows 1047 shunting at Chullora in January 1959, the extended jib has been removed. The third photo on page 283 shows 1047 on the old top road of the Lapstone ZigZag in January 1912, interestingly in the exact same spot as the photo in Eardley's book. So near identical are these photo's that it seems likely that despite the different dates credited to them by the authors, they were taken at the same time (they are not the same photos, a man appears in one but not the other). It seems extreemely unlikely that a locomotive could be photographed twice in the exact same spot at different times with the jib and valve gear in the same positions. Century+ also has this photo (on page 83) and a very small reproduction of the Honeysuckle photo.

Essays in Steam page 82 has a photo of 1047 alongside 1042 at Cardiff workshops in 1966. This photo also in NSWGR in Steam

Byways of Steam 11 page 112 has a photo of 1047 in Flemington yard 3/3/1960, believed to be in transit from Cardiff to Chullora.

Buckland page 128 has an undated photo of 1047 with the extended side tanks.

ARHS Bulletin March 1978 has a photo of 1047 in derelict condition at Cardiff shortly before scrapping

Roundhouse July 1987 has two photos of 1047 being serviced at Gosford loco while being transfered from Newcastle to Sydney under its own power. Photos are undated but overhead wiring is visible in background. The electric coaling crane also appears in the photo. Roundhouse July 1991 has a colour photo of 1047 'painted up for the royal tour' by the Chullora workshops staff. The loco is painted black with elaborate red and yellow lining.
