0. Marriage of Andrew Watley and Ellen took place at St. Phillips C of E, Sydney.

1. Ellen and James lived at 37 Buckland Street, Waterloo (a house which became 119 Wellington Street) for about 22 years (1882-1904). On the 1909 Electoral Roll, Ellen Garde Byrne (née Thomas) is resident at 25 Elizabeth St., Waterloo, with Florence May (dressmaker) and Ella Blanche (tailoress) -- no men being located at the address. Elizabeth Street is one of Sydney's longest, commencing in the city near Wynyard (where the current #25 is located) and running through Waterloo to Zetland (where current numbers reached 900+).

2. The marriage certificate of Andrew John Thomas and Isabella Irvine was dated 1/11/83 at St. Stephens Church, Newtown. Andrew John Thomas was a bootmaker of Waterloo at the time of marriage. Isabella was said to be from McDonaldtown. Isabella's older brother, Robert George Irvine, was also a bootmaker.

3. Mary Tondut had an earlier child in NSW, John Joseph Tondut (mother Mary, no father). He was born on 5/12/1876, registered in 1877.

4. I am writing the unusual story of Ida May Thomas (my grandmother); it will be published elsewhere.

5. Andrew Charles was a jockey.

6. Gabrielle's birth record called her "Ida M. I. Thomas" (no father, mother Ida M. Thomas). Her name was changed, at least informally.

7. Photos: Allen Byrne Cowan and Nita Henrietta Mary Turner. Alan in 1932 and Nita, at age 17, in 1928.

8. Harry James Thomas (snr) made his living as a watchmaker.

9. Harry James (jnr) and his sister Mary lived together as adults.
